How we choose products
NEATLY is an independent UK home-discovery and editorial platform. We research and curate organisation, storage, cleaning, renter-friendly and small-space finds. This page explains how we decide what appears on the site, and what our recommendations are — and are not.
Our selection principles
It has to solve a real problem
Every find starts from a situation, not a product: a cupboard you cannot reach into, a shower with nowhere to put anything, a wardrobe with one rail. If we cannot describe the problem an item solves in one sentence, we do not feature it.
Practicality before looks
We favour pieces that stay useful after the first week — things that are easy to clean, easy to put back, and that do not need re-organising to work. Attractive products that make daily life more fiddly do not make the cut.
Value, not just a low price
Cheap is only good value if the item lasts and gets used. We consider price against likely lifespan and how often something will be used, and we never present a price as a saving or a discount.
Space-saving potential
NEATLY exists for smaller UK homes. We look hard at footprint, whether an item uses otherwise-dead vertical space, and whether it folds, stacks or nests when it is not in use.
Clear product information
We prefer listings that publish real dimensions, materials and weight limits. Where measurements matter — and in storage they almost always do — we tell you what to measure before buying.
Retailer availability and reliability
A recommendation is useless if nobody can buy it. We favour products stocked by established retailers that ship to the UK, and we remove or update listings when they go out of stock or change substantially.
Editorial independence
Commission never buys placement, position, wording or a better write-up. Our commercial arrangements are with retailers and affiliate networks, not with brands seeking coverage.
How we research
Our starting point is the problem, not the product. We look at how UK homes are actually built — standard cupboard depths, galley kitchens, pedestal basins, rented flats where you cannot drill — and then at whether a product genuinely fits those constraints. We read published specifications, compare like-for-like alternatives, and check that the retailer listing gives buyers enough information to decide.
What our recommendations are not
Inclusion on NEATLY is not a guarantee, a warranty or a professional endorsement. We are not a testing laboratory, and we do not publish lab results, durability testing or safety certification of our own. We do not claim independent verification we have not carried out, and we do not publish review scores or star ratings.
